Dr Louis Galea – are you really serious or is this some kind of April Fool joke?

Yesterday evening I was reading a report on a local news site of an appraisal made by Dr Louis Galea of the current position of the Nationalist Party. Remember, he is the man who has been appointed to carry out a “reform” of the PN and presumably bring everything up to date.

One paragraph read: “He said the PN was always the most progressive and liberal Party while also embracing Democratic Christianity.”

What?????????????

I read, re-read and re-re-read this paragraph several times – not sure whether the reporter writing it had made a mistake, or whether Dr Galea had tackled generous helpings of vodka and tonic before making the appraisal, or perhaps whether he intended it as some kind of April Fool joke at the end of July. Maybe my eyesight was failing me!

The PN “always the most progressive and liberal Party”???????????

The PN “embracing Democratic Christianity”??????????

Where does one start?

This is a Party with a history of having OPPOSED every form of reform consistently.

The PN opposed votes for all on the grounds that illiterate and manual labouring persons did not merit a vote.

The PN opposed votes for women on the contention that women are too stupid to vote and only vote on the looks of the candidate or as their husband orders them to.

The PN opposed the introduction of Income Tax to boost Government funds for education and health care.

The PN opposed the introduction of free education.

The PN opposed the introduction of free medical care.

The PN opposed the introduction of an allowance for children.

The PN opposed Malta’s declaration of neutrality.

The PN opposed the establishment of Air Malta and Sea Malta.

In short, the PN OPPOSED every kind of conceivable reform and liberalism, in more recent times including divorce and gay rights – and in most cases backed to the hilt by the Church Authorities in Malta!

Is this Christian Democracy?

Is the current spate of hate, venom and insults being traded by PN members TOWARD EACH OTHER another sign of Christian Democracy?

My conclusion – Dr Louis Galea was very liberal with the vodka and tonic before making this appraisal!
