MARGARET THATCHER WAS ‘NOT FOR TURNING’ – Adrian Delia does so many turns he is like a roll of pork

I find it hard to reconcile the many contradictions that Adrian Delia expresses. What I can say for certain is that if he were my last hope of salvation I would, could, not be bothered to trust that salvation.
What he says in one sentence, he contradicts himself in the next. If he fails to do that, in any instance, what he asserts is then belied by actual facts and figures and this at least should engender, even encourage, a person to think first before shooting wildly from the hip.
Yes, he did say he is new to politics and yes, he did say he is not a politician and yes, he is a lawyer and is likely to say one thing today and do something exactly the opposite the next. However, he has now been PN Leader for a year and he should have learnt something about politics by now.
On Monday evening he urged people to come out – presumably in their masses – to attend the PN’s Independence activities events – and then almost in the same breath said the country is so insecure that people are afraid to leave their homes.
Then how the hell can they venture to Floriana if they are afraid to leave their homes? Just a few hours later after his pontificating that Law and Order are not keeping the country safe, the Customs Department announced they had just made the greatest drugs haul in Malta’s history, estimated at a street value of €30 million.
Well, if that is not safeguarding the country’s interests and if that is not Law and Order, then I do not know what is! Ok, the consignment was not for Malta but it is still our legal duty to fight drugs-trafficking worldwide.
In similar manner last week he was taken to task by 21 NGOs for having made a wholesale xenophobic and indiscriminate attack on all foreigners in Malta, particularly immigrants and said they are ruining the country, destroying the Maltese identity etc. Fair enough – he has a right to his opinion if that is what he feels and believes.
The NGOs described him as a “racist” and a mover of “hate speech”.
Lo and behold, the very day after he was shaking hands with the captain of the ship Aquarius, patting him on the shoulder and telling him what a fine job he is doing bringing immigrants to Malta. Shortly after he announced his “plan” that Malta should declare itself as a “salvage centre” for all immigrants.
Unbelievable! Incredible! Many years ago British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher described herself as “this woman is not for turning” i.e. nothing will persuade her to change her mind. Adrian Delia is like a roll of pork on a barbecue spit – turning 360 degrees every few seconds!
Earlier still, he had completely messed up the Simon Busuttil farce, following Egrant first telling him he should “consider his position” – in other words “piss off” - and then somersaulting when Busuttil more or less replied “piss off yourself”, taking everything back and retaining the status quo.
One other final question – what’s the idea of Delia surrounding himself with schoolgirls while making sermons on the Granaries? One understands the spin impression of attracting youths and young people to the party (particularly as normally only the doddering ageing like me bother to turn up for his sermons) – but schoolgirls?
In the meanwhile, the internal civil war continues with Manwel Delia entertaining the country with his theatrics and his Daphne Caruana Galizia bootlicking, Simon Busuttil currently continues to keep a low profile and apparently so far, most PN MPs boycotting their Independence celebrations when Delia is around and if they turn up standing at a distance from Delia.
