“ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL” – or has the PN Opposition become a dysfunctional free-for-all?
This country has democratically developed into a One Party State because there is only one political party worth considering and taking seriously, a development that has been the handiwork of the other politically large Nationalist Party because of totally gross incompetence.
On the other hand, the official Opposition Nationalist Party has become a multiple choice “strange animal” entity – which is how they were always wisely and accurately described by the late and great Dom Mintoff.
I have tried to piece the jigsaw of this fragmented “strange animal” Opposition which, roughly, to my calculation has become:
On the one part the Adrian Delia PN under the charge of a man who ran a football club (some sad badly) who boasts of knowing nothing and not being a politician but who aspires to one day running this country, perhaps Europe and – who knows – even the World! Quite clearly, he has no control over his party which has become a free-for-all arena under concepts of “Who Dares Wins”.
On the other part there is the Simon Busuttil PN which calls for total drooling and adulation for anything that Busuttil says and does on condition that one also drools and salivates over the late Daphne Caruana Galizia.
This faction contains its own multiple elements in which people like Beppe’ Fenech Adami, Mario de Marco and Jason Azzopardi actually resented having had Simon Busuttil foisted on them by Lawrence Gonzi and aspired to replace him but were thwarted by Delia who barged them out of the way and took the prize himself.
It also contains the bizarre figure of Edwin Vassallo who refrained from voting on anti-domestic violence legislation and later bizarrely and heretically compared DCG to being the equivalent of Our Lady of Sorrows. And of course, there is a prize clown Salvu Mallia – another example of Busuttil’s idiocy who “welcomed him” warmly into the PN.
The third factor is the Democratic Party which cunningly profited by the idiocy and incompetence of Busuttil and entered into a loose-fitting alliance that helped them pinch two PN seats, after which, having secured, they gladly declared the “alliance” as a “has been” that never saw the light of day.
In all, this is extremely worrying that the country’s official Opposition is made up of a band of total incompetents whose only aspiration is that of showing their anger at two colossal electoral defeats and obtaining forms of revenge by sowing discontent, envy and disarray.
However, all this dysfunctional disaster pales into total insignificance when compared to the shameful damage that people like David Casa and Roberta Metsola have continually heaped on the country in every European corner, trying to shamefully inflict the maximum amount of damage on their very own country.
Much the same can be said for the cruel disdain shown by Busuttil, Fenech Adami and Azzopardi over the donation to the Community Chest Fund and the totally distasteful campaign being used by various factions to exploit the death of Daphne Caruana Galizia for political exploitation.
Final analysis: a total free-for-all by an odious bunch of evil people.
