Basel AML Index exposes PN lies, deception and treachery – Malta classified to have Public Transpare

Labour MP Glenn Bedingfield hit the nail straight on the head when speaking on the programme “Pjazza” yesterday evening when he said that the ONLY option the Nationalist Party has worked itself into is to harm and damage the country’s economy by using every possible means.

This has included constant allegations that have now been exposed to be lies, deception and treachery committed against their own country’s economy – purely for the political gain of the PN and some of its disoriented adherents.

Everything has a sell-by date and the PN’s sell-by date expired many years ago, so many, the product has now become toxic and poisonous.

The Basel AML Index is a Swiss independent annual ranking that assesses the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF) around the world.

Published by the Basel Institute on Governance since 2012, it provides risk scores based on data from 15 publicly available sources such as the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Transparency International, the World Bank and the World Economic Forum.

The risk scores cover five domains:

  1. Quality of AML/CFT Framework

  2. Bribery and Corruption

  3. Financial Transparency and Standards

  4. Public Transparency and Accountability

  5. Legal and Political Risks

The Public Edition of the Basel AML Index 2019 covers 125 countries with sufficient data to calculate a reliable ML/TF risk score.

This Basel Institute on Governance has given a remarkably good and commendable mark to Malta in its annual index when it classified Malta in 113th place among 125 countries, with a low risk of money laundering and terrorist financing.

Yes, 113th place – that is just 12 places off the lowest ranked country risk and with no less than 112 preceding countries that carry more risks for money-laundering and terrorist financing.

The detailed report by the esteemed Swiss institute exposes the low-down ONCE AND FOR ALL on all the dirt, lies, deception and treachery that has been put about by the Nationalist Party that Malta is rampant with corruption, a main centre for money-laundering and consequently ripe for the financing of terrorism.

Despite this breath of fresh air that vindicates the Government and financial institutions such as the MFSA and the FIAU, even up to yesterday NETNEWS came out with the story that purported to raise national alarm that Malta is an active centre for ISIS operations. This because an immigrant who was arrested in Hungary and had been in Malta some years ago was found to have ISIS connections!

However, that is just the tip of a gigantic iceberg of lies, deception and treachery that the PN has been banding about all over the world with a string of ploys that have included constant false allegations, falsified documents, forged signatures, false accusations about the Prime Minister and his family in connection with Egrant and the constant and continual damage spread by the PN’s MEPs in the Euro Parliament.

The detailed 39 page report was a reassuring breath of fresh air for Malta’s Authorities in their efforts to defend Malta's reputation in the financial services sector. It was published just a few hours before the MFSA issued its strategic three-year plan which the Authority's CEO, Joseph Cuschieri, described as a plan which will further dedicate its energy and a lot of resources to strengthen the supervision of financial operators hand in hand with the FIAU.

The Basel Report also exposes many treacherous allegations bandied about by the late Daphne Caruana Galizia portraying Malta under a Labour Government to be crawling with corruption and money-laundering with the approval of the allegedly involved Government authorities – a cry taken up by her parrot/poodle Simon Busuttil and his bunch of loony followers.

So, press on the “new way” Delia PN, continue to encourage the laying of flowers and lighting of candles to commemorate DCG; carry on Manwel Delia with your Civil Society and Repubblika banding about your allegations.

The Maltese public now has THE TRUTH as provided by the Basel Institute – that is unless – as the PN has also alleged - Finance Minister Edward Scicluna is bribing all and sundry to issue reports to place Malta in a favourable light! It must have cost a massive packet to bribe the Swiss Institute ...
